RM Sotheby’s eagerly awaited three-day Duemila Ruote auction, held during the Milano AutoClassica show, generated a sale total of €51.26 million with over 3,000 active bidders participating. The private collection of more than 800 cars, boats, bikes and automobilia was offered without reserve following its seizure by the Italian government. Spirited bidding saw many estimates blitzed, despite the majority of the cars lacking any detailed history and documentation.
Star attraction was the pre-sale favourite, a 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB/6C Alloy, which sold for €3,416,000 (estimate €2,400,000 – 2,800,000).
A 2004 Maserati MC12 which has covered less than 6,000km from new set a new auction record, selling for €3,024,000 (estimate €1,100,000 – 1,300,000).
Other significant sales included a 26,761-km 1992 Ferrari F40 at €1,030,400 (estimate €725,000 – 875,000); a 29,200-km 1988 Porsche 959 ‘Komfort’ at €1,008,000 (estimate €600,000 – 700,000); a 1991 Lancia LC2 Group C at €851,200 (estimate €240,000 – 280,000); and a 1996 Porsche 911 GT2 at €616,000.
Elsewhere a 1987 Alfa Romeo 75 Turbo Evoluzione IMSA ‘Ufficiale’ sold for €336,000 (estimate €100,000 – 120,000); a 1970 Maserati Ghibli 4.9 SS and a 1971 example each made €302,400 against estimates of €200,000 – 230,000; a 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster fetched €291,200 (estimate €130,000 – 150,000); and among the 21 Jaguar E-Types on offer, the top lot was 1963 Series I 3.8 Roadster which brought €173.600 (estimate €65,000 – 75,000).
Heading the results at Osenat’s EPOQU'AUTO sale in Chassieu, France on 6 November was the catalogue cover car, a 1949 Delahaye 135M Cabriolet Chapron, which far exceeded its pre-sale estimate, changing hands for €240,000 (estimate €150,000 – 180,000).
Notable highlights included a 1975 Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 Targa at €162,000 (estimate €150,000 – 200,000); a 1970 Citroën DS21 IE Cabriolet Ivanoff conversion at €110,400 (estimate €80,000 – 120,000); and a one owner 1968 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL which achieved a mid-estimate €79,200.
