The Finest Automobile Auctions launched their inaugural sale during the Elegance at Hershey Concours on 11 June, generating a total of $3.46 million with a 63% sale rate from the 50 lots on offer. Headlining the results was a recently restored 1968 Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2, with documented owner history back to 1973, which sold for $577,500 (estimate $575,000 – 650,000).
Notable highlights included; a 1927 Bugatti Type 38A Grand Sport, with Brooklands period race history and continuous provenance from new, achieved $440,000 (estimate $400,000 – 600,000); a 1929 Bugatti Type 40A Roadster, restored in 2004, made $375,000 (estimate $425,000 – 500,000); and a 1952 Siata 300 BC Sports Spider, with period US race history, took $330,000 (estimate $350,000 – 425,000).
Bonhams posted a sale total of $5.39 million and a sale rate of 80% from the 100+ lots going under the hammer at their Greenwich auction on 5 June. Star attraction was a one-owner 2005 Ford GT which had covered just 113 miles from new, fetching $291,500 against a pre-sale estimate of $290,000 – 320,000.
Elsewhere a 1961 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II Drophead Coupe went for $265,000 (estimate $300,000 – 400,000); and a 1959 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL, with matching Mini Tears trailer, changed hands for $192,500 (estimate $150,000 – 200,000).
Other success included a 1950 Tatra Type 87 at $137,500 (estimate $100,000 – 125,000); a 1973 Maserati Bora 4.9 at $160,600 (estimate $160,000 – 200,000); a 2002 Ferrari 575M, showing less than 17,000 miles, went for $123,200 (estimate $70,000 – 90,000); and a one-owner 1966 Shelby GT350, stored since 1976, sailed past its estimate of $80,000 – 120,000, selling for $159,500.
